QDMA Welcomes Smith & Wesson as National Sponsor
Watkinsville, Ga. – QDMA Executive
Director Brian Murphy has announced that Smith & Wesson,
one of America’s oldest and most respected firearms
companies, is its newest national sponsor, and first-ever
firearm sponsor.
“We are extremely honored to have Smith & Wesson
support our mission to promote ethical hunting, sound deer
management and preservation of the deer-hunting heritage,”
Murphy said. “Handgun hunting continues to grow in popularity
around the country, and a growing number of QDMA members are
participating in this challenging form of deer hunting.”
As part of the agreement, Smith & Wesson handguns will
be prominently featured at QDMA fundraising events. Smith
& Wesson and QDMA also will join forces to produce an
informational publication on handgun hunting for distribution
to QDMA members and Smith & Wesson customers.
“This partnership provides a unique opportunity to associate
Smith & Wesson products with an organization that has
experienced significant membership growth while working tirelessly
to strengthen its position in wildlife management and conservation,”
said Paul Pluff, Smith & Wesson Director of Marketing
Services.
Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson formed a partnership in
1852, taking the first step toward earning themselves –
and their fledgling company – places in American firearms
history. The company patented the rimfire cartridge in 1854.
It introduced the first magnum revolver – the .357 magnum
– in 1935, and the awesome .44 magnum in the 1950s.
One of Smith & Wesson’s latest and most popular
introductions is the stainless steel Model 629 Performance
Center hunting handgun. A .44 magnum Model 629 will be featured
as the 2005 QDMA Handgun of the Year at the March 12 Spring
Banquet and Auction, in Atlanta, and at the June 2-5 QDMA
National Convention and Whitetail Expo, in Charleston, S.C.
Smith & Wesson also will be an exhibitor in the Whitetail
Expo, and the company will also display its No. 30 NASCAR
Busch Series car at the Expo.
Founded in 1988, QDMA is a national nonprofit wildlife conservation
organization with nearly 35,000 members in all 50 states and
several foreign countries. Membership in QDMA is open to anyone
committed to ethical hunting, sound deer management and the
preservation of the deer-hunting heritage. To learn more about
