Experts Share New Research into Mature Buck Movements at the QDMA National Convention
Bogart, Ga. – Mature buck travel patterns remain one of the biggest mysteries of deer behavior – where, when, why and how far they roam – and the Friday morning Research Session at the QDMA National Convention will feature the latest break-throughs in research to help lift the veil of mystery that shrouds wise, old whitetails.
“Deer Movements: New Research With Implications for Quality Deer Management” is the title of the Friday morning Research Session at the QDMA National Convention in Chattanooga, Tennessee, July 24-27. Straight from the field to the seminar hall, the latest knowledge on buck movements from current whitetail research will be shared by today’s leading researchers. The Friday morning seminar topics and speakers include:
Adult buck movements: Where do they go during hunting season? Given by Dr. Mark Conner, wildlife biologist and manager of Chesapeake Farms in Maryland, a 3,300-acre wildlife and agricultural research property.
Buck harvest by age and date: When are mature bucks most vulnerable? Given by wildlife biologist Rod Cumberland, deer management biologist for the Department of Natural Resources in the Canadian province of New Brunswick.
Seasonal movement patterns, habitat use and home range in a quality-managed deer herd. Given by Dr. Michael Chamberlain, wildlife researcher and assistant professor at the Louisiana State University’s AgCenter.
Protecting wide-ranging bucks through QDM Cooperatives. Given by Kip Adams, wildlife biologist and QDMA’s Director of Education in the northern United States.
“The home ranges and seasonal movement patterns of mature bucks are a big focus of recent deer research, and what we are learning goes straight to the heart of knowledge hunters need to be successful,” said Adams. “A lot of hunters and QDMA members are already telling us they are really looking forward to this particular group of seminars at the Convention.”
The educational seminars throughout all four days of the QDMA National Convention are one of the most unique attributes of the event: direct access to dozens of the top deer experts in the nation through seminars and one-on-one discussion. Open to both QDMA members and non-members, the Convention also includes banquets, auctions, and the Whitetail Expo, the only deer hunting show in the nation that is focused on Quality Deer Management.
The QDMA National Convention will take place at the Chattanooga Convention Center in Chattanooga, Tennessee, from Thursday, July 24 through Sunday, July 27. For more information about the many other events and educational opportunities at the Convention, visit www.QDMA.com.
